VIDEO PRODUCTION

As a true creative, I’ve found many outlets for my imaginative ideas and developed in-depth skills in multimedia production, including story-oriented video ideation, end-to-end video editing, and color grading. Sharing concepts through film and video has always been one of my greatest loves, and I continue to make videos whenever I can.

I developed the creative for this video, with the goal of complementing the anthemic message of the track through uplifting imagery that reflected a dreamy sense of a positive future, deep interpersonal connection, and adventure. When the footage I got back from the film crew I directed (while filming, which was a challenge) and saw that there wasn’t enough acceptable material to use for a whole video, I pivoted. I found and cut in stock footage that echoed my concepts, and painstakingly color graded every clip to make the video feel like one cohesive piece.

A fellow musician/female producer and I came up with the idea of combining our encouraging music into one immersive live experience. The challenge was, to get booked, we needed a show reel – and while we had plenty of videos of our individual performances, we didn’t have any where we were performing together. So, we went to a green screen studio and filmed a “faux show” where we performed a handful of each of our songs in front of several different cameras. I cut the video together, removing/replacing backgrounds, adding effects, and generally working to smooth the whole thing together into an exciting, compelling reel.

“For the Better” is a track that carries a message of hope and the magic of connection – among humans as well as non-humans. It’s about the love that gets us through even the most difficult times and determination that things can improve no matter how bleak they may seem. But there was no budget to create a video for this project, and stock video with some AI thrown in were the only tools at my disposal. It may not be a Beyoncé video, but without the megastar’s resources, I don’t feel so bad about the feelings this little project might elicit.

What do you get when you mash up a host of historical footage of different dance scenes with a current future-house banger? This video! “My Glass” is a celebratory song focused on the importance of physical movement in keeping a positive perspective. And without a budget with which to film a video as iconic as the song’s in-your-face sound, archival footage came to the rescue. I dug through the deeps of the interwebz to uncover the hidden gems that appear in this video and altered them in myriad ways to build something that would keep the audience’s attention during a live show.
